The Black Dove: A Novel

Summary

The first book in a thrilling new Irish crime series from internationally bestselling author Dervla McTiernan.

Everyone knows who killed Laura Blair. Everyone is wrong.

Ten years ago, seventeen-year-old Laura was found dead in the woods outside the Irish village of Kiltober. There was no arrest or trial, but her boyfriend, Conall O’Sullivan, was condemned by neighbors, friends and people who had known him all his life. Within a year, Conall was dead too, by his own hand.

His sisters were left with the consequences.

Clíona, now a police officer, never forgave Kiltober and swore she would never return. Ava, a young defense barrister and the town’s favorite O’Sullivan, sees the village and what happened to their brother very differently.

Called home after their father’s heart attack, Clíona returns alone. Ava has just taken on the case of her life—defending a seemingly innocent client who reminds her too much of her dead brother.

Then, on a walk in the woods, the ground collapses beneath Clíona, revealing a hidden cellar, an iron bed bolted to the stone and a bloodstained mattress. She is certain the cellar is connected to Laura’s murder. Proving it could finally clear Conall’s name—but she’ll need Ava’s help.

Their brother died condemned as a killer. His sisters are coming for the truth.
