She Speaks for God: What Women Prophets in the Bible Reveal About Prophecy

Summary

Miriam sang a song of liberation. Deborah led her people to victory. Isaiah's prophetess embodied her message of hope. Mary announced the coming of her son the Messiah. These women provide different models of the prophetic vocation. What can they teach us about the role of prophecy in the Bible—and in the church today?

Scholar and minister Jacqueline N. Grey shines a light on Scripture's often overlooked female prophets in this fresh, accessible volume. Highlighting eleven unique stories, Grey shows how the role of a prophet developed from the Old Testament to the New. Women prophets in the Bible challenged, led, and encouraged their ancient communities to be faithful to God. Each story also offers insight into how God continues to speak through his people—both women and men—in the modern era.

Ideal for classrooms and discussion groups, She Speaks for God includes questions for reflection with every chapter. Listeners will be inspired by the prophets' dynamic speech, bold action, and commitment to God's justice.
