Impossible Journeys

Summary

Homeward Bound meets The Hidden Lives of Dogs in a poignant, gift-worthy collection of true canine odysseys of returning home.

For centuries, dogs have made impossible journeys. They’ve walked up to 3000 miles, crossing rivers, mountains, and deserts to find their home again. Some navigated using trains, boats, and ships. Several crossed the Atlantic to get home. Some managed to find a beloved owner or family in a completely unknown place. Others walked miles to lie on the grave of a dead owner or child, despite never having visited the cemetery before.

And yet how dogs do this is still a mystery to us. Impossible Journeys takes us deep into this mystery, through a remarkable odyssey of canine magic. There’s Bobbie the Wonder Dog, lost on a family vacation in Indiana, who walked over 2,500 miles home to Oregon. There’s Skippy, who found his family in Minnesota after they had left him in Seattle. There’s Hector the terrier, who boarded a ship from Vancouver to join his beloved owner almost 5,000 miles away in Japan.

Brimming with tales of adventure, wonder, and courage, and with lovely photographs of our world travellers, Impossible Journeys is a love letter to canine loyalty and connection. It’s a book as expansive and epic as the journeys themselves, and will forever change the way you look at your beloved companion.
