Tasker

Summary

From New York Times bestselling author James Swallow, Tasker is a pulse-pounding techno-thriller with a deadly threat torn from tomorrow’s headlines.

You Have One New Message: HOW FAR WILL YOU GO?

The latest thing on everyone’s phone, Tasker is an anonymous service for quick side hustles paid in untraceable digital cash—drive a car, deliver a package … or even commit a murder.

After prison, ex–Army Ranger Connor Lockwood vows to keep his reckless younger brother from a life of crime—but his jobs from gig-employment app Tasker are barely enough to survive, and as the insidious software learns more about him, Connor crosses the line between legal and unlawful.

Humiliated when her big-break story was revealed as fake news, journalist Alison Wayne is desperate for redemption, and she might just get it when a Tasker programmer comes to her with explosive revelations about the software.

But when the whistleblower is shot dead, Alison goes on the run. And when Connor’s brother is caught in the crossfire, the veteran embarks on a perilous search for answers.

The forces controlling Tasker are grooming the desperate, the greedy, and the immoral, laying the groundwork for nationwide chaos. Now Connor and Alison must work together if they hope to survive, let alone find the truth.

But who can you trust when anyone with a smartphone is a potential killer?
