On their descent, Jim Davidson fell through an ice bridge on Rainier's northeast flank, plunging eighty feet into a narrow crevasse inside the Emmons Glacier and dragging Mike Price in after him. Mike fell to his death; Jim, badly injured and armed with minimal gear, faced an almost impossible climb back out of the crevasse, up a nearly vertical ice wall. Author Bio: Jim Davidson
Jim Davidson is coauthor with Kevin Vaughan of The Ledge which was one of Amazon’s Best Books of 2011, winner of the National Outdoor Book Award in Outdoor Literature (2012), and finalist at the Banff Mountain Book Competition in Canada. This amazing survival story is also featured in the “Killer Crevasse” episode of the television show I Shouldn’t Be Alive. Jim is a climber and international speaker who shares lessons distilled from a lifetime of mountain adventures. He has scaled peaks across the United States and been on high-altitude expeditions to Alaska, Argentina, Bolivia, Ecuador, Mexico, Nepal, and Tibet. Jim has summited the sixth highest peak in the world, Cho Oyu at 26,906 feet. He has volunteered for several difficult mountain rescues, for which the National Park Service has commended him and his teammates twice. As a mountain climber and expedition leader for thirty years, Jim is an expert in resilience. Prior to being a professional speaker and adventure writer, Jim worked as an environmental geologist for twenty-two years.

Kevin Vaughan, senior reporter at the I-News Network, is an award-winning journalist and author. Over his twenty-five-year career he has written for the Fort Morgan Times, the Fort Collins Coloradoan, the Rocky Mountain News, and the Denver Post and has covered some of the state’s biggest stories, including the tragedy at Columbine High School, Colorado’s horrific wildfire season of 2002, and the Colorado Rockies’ 2007 World Series run. He is a 1986 graduate of Metropolitan State College, and his work has been honored numerous times. His 2007 Rocky Mountain News series, “The Crossing,” which examined the lifelong reverberations of Colorado’s worst traffic accident, was a finalist for the Pulitzer Prize in Feature Writing. He is the coauthor with Jim Davidson of the best-seller The Ledge: An Adventure Story of Friendship and Survival on Mount Rainier.
