Summary

Portia Welham lives in modern-day New York, but was born 200 years before on an island kingdom ruled by her father. After she falls critically ill as a child, she's transported to the future using her family's Time Medallion. It saves her life; but having grown up in a different era, adult Portia can no longer reconcile to the fate that awaits her back home.

Watching over her shoulder is Michael Bryce, Guardian of the Medallion. It's his job to keep her—and the amulet—safe. And now they're locked in a battle of wills as he attempts to convince her it's time to come home to marry a prince to further her family's interests.

Till one day Michael arrives in her world seriously injured and Portia realizes something is truly amiss on Welham Island. As she nurses him to health, it's also clear there's more to their relationship than they are willing to admit. Fighting a forbidden desire, she agrees to return, whereupon she's engaged to a prince who promises protection against a common enemy. But it might be too little too late to save the island. And she can no longer ignore what her heart wants.
