Summary

Summary

While his sisters, Flopsy, Mopsy, and Cottontail gather blackberries, Peter rabbit sneaks into Mr. McGregor's garden. His mother has warned them about going there, but the naughty little bunny has to see it for himself. There, in the garden, Peter finds some things are good to eat--but others might eat him! Beatrix Potter wrote the first book of her Tales as an illustrated letter to a young friend. Published in 1902, The Tale of Peter Rabbit was followed by 22 others. These charming stories are best-sellers around the world and have captivated generations of children. As a child, Potter studied art and natural history. Although she grew up in London, she enjoyed spending family holidays in Scotland and the Lake District, where she loved the animals and countryside. The original Peter Rabbit was a household pet.

Author Bio: Beatrix Potter

Helen Beatrix Potter (1866–1943), born in London, is regarded as one of the world’s best-loved children’s authors of all time. From her first book, The Tale of Peter Rabbit (1902) she went on to create a series of stories based around animal characters including Mrs Tiggy-winkle, Mr Jeremy Fisher, and Tom Kitten. Her humorous, lively tales and beautiful illustrations have become a natural part of childhood. A source of inspiration was the Lake District where she lived for the last thirty years of her life as a farmer and conservationist. Her books have been translated into nearly every language and have never been out of print.
